Saira Fuentes was born and raised in Passaic, N.J. She graduated from Passaic high school in 2005. At the age of 23 she lost her eyesight. After losing her eyesight she learned how to be independent while being blind and applied to Bergen Community College. While she always wanted to pursue something in music she didn’t know where to begin until she heard about BCC’s music recording major. While taking her classes she had a lot of obstacles such as not being able to navigate the software by herself so she was appointed an assistant who did all of the visual work while she told them what she wanted to have done. While she wasn’t able to navigate the software the professors found a way in which she would be able to do some of the work and they gave her a controller so it would be tack tile and with this she was able to do some of the mixing. After all the struggles she graduated with her associates degree and applied to Ramapo College for music production. During her time there she continued with an assistant. While taking her classes she got her equipment and found out you can navigate DAW’s with a screen reader and she got some training which she is still learning so she can make her own beats. She graduated in 2020 with her bachelors degree in music production. She continues to learn how to use her equipment and the different keystrokes so she can apply anything she wants when making her beats. She wants to get better so she can sell her music and be someone who is blind and successful as a visually imparied person.
